WOMAN’S RASH ACT.
THROWS HERSELF IN FRONT OF TRAIN. When (he 4.45 p.m. (rain was leaving f'almerston for Dannevirke, yesterday, a woman made a desperate attempt to commit suicide. .• Abdul 200 yards past Devine’s Empire Hotel the driver of the train (Mr Villiers) saw a man, woman and child proceeding along Main Street. As the train approached them, the woman rushed from th» footpath and threw herself on the rails. The driver immediately applied the brakes, bringing the train to a dead slop quite close to the prostrate woman. At this juncture the man appeared on the scene, and pulled the woman from the rails, The trio left in great haste, making their escape before the train officials could ascertain who they were. The whole incident was sudden and mysterious, and so far the identify of the people has not been established. The sudden application of the brakes broke some couplings, and there was a slight delay before the train could resume its journey.
