GRANT IN AID FROM MANAWATU COUNTY.

The Manawatu County Council is the rating authority at the local seaside, but the land at the resort is part of the Foxton Harbour Board endowment, and is leased for residential purposes (o numerous tenants. A committee has been set iij) to carry out improvements at the seaside, and have done excellent work. A section has been sot aside for recreation purposes, and at Wednesday’s meeting of the County Council a letter was received, signed by the chairman {Air A. G. Dawiek) and secretary (Mr E. Brail) of the Committee, asking that tlmsite for a recreation ground he fenced. By erecting a fence on the surveyed boundary the track would be blocked, owing to a sandhill making traffic impossible. The committee asked that a portion of the hill should be removed, and that a track for the benefit of the ratepay >rs should he provided. —Cr Barber, with the engineer, were deputed to inspect the site. Cr Barber was authorised to expend the sum of £lO, if he considered it necessary.
