SHOCKING TRAGEDY
INFANT’S. EYES GOUGED OUT. Hamilton, Yesterday. The Hamilton police have received word of a shocking tragedy in Naike, Raglan County. The details are meagre, but it is slated that a settler named Albert Morrinc gouged out the eyes of a year-old baby girl, and thou ran away. Mrs Morrine rang up Mrs Griffin, a neighbour, who went to the house. The man returned later, and endeavoured to cuter the house through the doors and windows, hut the women prevented him doing so, and telephoned to a neighbour, who came and secured him. The police and Dr. Marlin, of Nganiawahia, were scut for, and went out. The doctor attended the child, who was brought to the Waikato Hospital. It was.at first stated that the child’s eyes were cut out, but Dr. Joseph thinks (hey were ✓ gouged out, as no traces of a sharp instrument having been used could be discovered. Constables Hissed and Ingram brought the man to Him Hy. He was brought before (he Coiut and remanded to Auckland. The mother of the child is in a state of collapse, and cannot be questioned. The child died at Hie hospital this morning, at 7 o’clock.
