THE HEMP MARKET.
In connection with Hie position that has arisen ia the hemp market, the following conimunicalion has been forwarded to the Prime Minister by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce:— “We have been informed by the American Consul-General that Hie American Government has cancelled all licenses for importation of New Zealand hemp into the United States, and is only issuing licenses for a very limited quantify. There are two boats loading in Wellington now which will absorb practically all'the licenses it is granting. In the event of the American Government adhering to these regulations, the (laxmillers here will have to stop. I( is a matter of importance that Hie productiveness of this Dominion should he kept up to its highest capacity. Wc therefore ask you to cable to Hie American Government, urging upon it the importance to New Zealand that these restrictions should be withdrawn.”
