HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A meeting of the committee of the Horticultural Society was held last night. The secretary presented a statement of the receipts and expenditure in connection with the recent show, which disclosed a profit of £4 2s Od. The receipts totalled £32 5s Od, made up as follows: —Door takings £5 12s Od, tea-room £3 7s Od, sweets stall £8 4s 3d, entry fees £7 2s 3d, and special and points prizes £7 19s 6d. The expenditure Avas as follows; Hall hire £4, schedules £2 1 1 s Od, adveitising £1 10s Od, prize money £ls 7s Od, judges’ expenses £1 Is Od, tea room £1 7s Od, labour £l, cartage Bs, and engraving trophies 12s, total £2B 3s Od. —The statement was adopted, and accounts passed for payment. A letter was read from Mr H. Witched, thanking the Society for the honour conferred on him by electing him a life member, and also signifying his intention of refunding the prize money won by him. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Witched for the refund of prize money. The secretary stated that the Deputy Commissioner, of Stamps had notified that Horticultural Societies were nof exempt from the Amusement Tax, and application had been 'made for the exemption, which had since been received.
The Town and Country Pal riot ic Women Workers, who are undertaking the catering at the forthcoming Mamnvaln A. and P. Show, applied for (he loan of the Society s table cloths.—The application was granted. A committee consisting of Messrs Bullard, Eurrie, and Claris, with power to add to their number, was appointed to make arrangements for competitions and amusements id the next show, and to report at next meeting. Hearty votes of thanks were passed to the Judges and all who assisted si 1 the recent show. It was decided that the Summer Show be held on November 28th and 2t)(h.
