FOXTON TENNIS CLUB.

ANNUAL REPORT,

The following is the annual report to be submitted at the annual general meeting of the Foxtou Tennis Club to be held on Monday evening: “As members, are no doubt aware, the Club was, prior to the last few months, in a practically defunct condition, due to a certain extent to a number of its active members being away at the war, hut to a greater extent to the lack of enthusiasm on the part of members. Numerous meetings were convened, but owing to the poor response of members the affairs of the Club drifted into such a state that it was questionable whet her the courts could lie retained owing to the Club being very much in arrears with, and little prospect of paying, or keeping up, its interest payments. The trustees on whom the brunt of this liability fell called a meeting for the purpose of giving every opportunity to (he enthusiastic tennis players to endeavour to resuscitate the Club, failing which (he trustees would have been reluctantly compelled to resort to the inevitable, and to them the Committee pass a hearty vote of thanks for their untiring efforts during the Clubs life and death struggle. The Committee have mnv much pleasure in announcing that through the kindness of Messrs F. S. Easton, F. Robinson, A. Fraser, W. E. Barber, J. Chrystall, A, Ross, Dr. Mandl and A. J. Kellow, the Club has’ been able to raise the necessary finance, enabling it to not only pay off its accumulation of debt, but purchase the property on which the courts stand, and at the same time enable members to carry on this healthy form of recreation and keep the game alive for the absent members when they return from the front. To these gentlemen who so generously came to the financial assistance at the most critical time of the Club's existence the Committee desire to express their hearty thanks and appreciation. In conclusion, your Committee, in retiring from office, wish to thank the members for their support and assistance daring the, year, especially those members who joined in the ‘working-bees' to put the courts into a playable condition, which has been much appreciated by a large number of players during the winter months. Now that the Club has taken a fresh lease of life, its welfare and prosperity rests with the enthusiasm of the members. We wish the incoming Committee every success for the coming season, and hope the Club will have a record membership. General. —Mith the exception of having the courts patched, at a cost of £l, the expenditure has been nil. They will require to be top-dressed this season, and the pavilion is in need of interior repair. No doubt this work will be carried out by the incoming committee so as to make the courts as attractive as possible for the members. Finance. —Upon a Bank guarantee being signed by the gentlemen mentioned above, the Chib has an overdraft limit at the Bank of £l5O, which, after paying In ‘Maimwain Lodge £IOO for existing mortgage,, pins 2} years, 55 days’ interest and current expenses, leaves a debit balance of £ll3 Cs 3d.
