EDUCATIONAL

Mr H. A. Parkinson, secretary of the N.Z, Educational Institute, in a .letter to Mr Iloniblow, avlio is contesting a seat on the Education Board with Mr .'.lf. Eraser (sitting member)), says; — “1 hike your sianding for election to the Board as an indication of the awakening; of interest in the cause of education that the Institute is desirous of bringing about. It is a good sign, and I wish you all success.

“it is not too much to say that the future happiness and prosperity of the people of this country depend, on the degree to which they can be educated to the right bearing of the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship in a free democracy. There a. re in the country some who desire, and are attempting to bring about, a return to the days when the many were held in subjection by the few; and there are also many who have allowed themselves to become so embittered that they will stop Ait nothing to get the rule of the country ino their own hands, even if they break the country in doing it. “It is only by educating the people in the true principles of government that a disastrous clash can be avoided, and the longer the education is delayed the more inevitable the danger becomes. That is why the Institute is attempting to rouse the country on the matter. The help of yourself will be very welcome and verv valuable.”
