APRIL WORKING.
The amount of gas manufactured at the local gas works during the month of April was 495,500 ft., which, with the amount in the holder on April Ist, 13,500 ft., made a total of 509,000 ft. 'The amount sold to consumers for lighting was 209,700 ft., for cooking and heating 155,300 ft., and for power 07,400 ft., 19,200 ft. was used in the street lamps, 18,900 ft. at the works and works and manager’s house, and there was 13,500 ft in the holder on May Ist, leaving 25,000 ft., representing five per cent, of the output, unaccounted for. Forty-four and a-ha,lf tons of coal was carbonised, yielding 11,120 ft. per ton.
MANAGER’S REPORT,
The gas works manager reported as follows; —The amount of gas manufactured during the month of April shows an increase as againstthe previous month. The carbonising plant is working satisfactorily. I am very busy fitting new cookers, and making alterations and repairs to fittings. We have at present 82 cookers, 42 grillers, 19 heat tors, and 13 gas engines connected to the town supply. Last year I connected nine new consumers, six cookers, four heaters, and one gas engine. I am unable to make any statement on the balance-sheet until I get same from the Town Clerk, which the Government Auditor has at present.
