PUBLIC SWIMMING BATHS.

At last night’s Borough Council meeting a letter Avas read from Mr R. Edwards, civil engineer, re construction of sAvimraing baths, and in reply to Council’s inquiry for details. Mr EdAvards stated that until the. complete plans have been prepared details can only be approximate. “I Avill require to peg out the exact position, take detail levels, and then prepare the complete plans in Avhich the exact details of all the Avork Avill be set out. This is more especially necessary where there is an excavation on one side and the river on the other side of the Avork. I have, however, divided out the estimate as far as I think it is possible to do so at present: bath £355, excavation £3O, small baths £3O, AvoodAvork £250, Avater supply £BS, total £750. All other charges are distributed into the above.” The Mayor said it Avould be impossible to go any further into the question until a site Avas definitely secured. He had discussed the question of site Avith the Chairman of the Harbour Board, which Avas close to the boating shed. Mr Hennessy Avas of opinion that the site may be required for Avharf extension. Cr Hurley said it would be a good thing for Foxton if the Avharf Avas ever required to be extended such a distance. The Mayor said the Council had applied for a lease of the foreshore for the purpose mentioned or for the Board to grant an endoAVtnent of same. The, matter would be dis-, cussed by the Board at its meeting »n Thursday next, and until the Board’s vieAvs Avere knoAvn the Council could not go any further with the matter.
