MUNICIPAL GAS WORKS.
MONTHLY REPORT. At last night’s Borough Council meeting the manager of the gas works reported as follows for the month of March: —Gas manufactured shows an increase all round, as against last month, lighting 11,500 c. ft., cooking and -heating 25,000. c. ft., and power 7,100 c. ft. Two new connections and two gas cookers were installed. The carbonising plant is working satisfactorily, and I hope to be able to present you Avith a very satisfactory report on the year’s working next month. The following is the monthly statement: Gas in holder on March Ist, v 12,900 c. ft.; manufactured, 484.200 e. ft.; total, 497,100 c. ft. Gas used by consumers (lighting) 189,700 c. ft.; cooking and heating 157.200 c. ft., power 72,100; street lamps 15,800; works, 17,000; gas in holder on April Ist, 13,000; gas accounted for, 450,200; unaccounted for, 31,900, representing (U per cent. Coal carbonised, 44 tons; yielding 11,000 c. ft. per ton. Expenditure. —Coal £72 11s, salaries, services and fittings £57 4s Od; interest and sinking fund £59 11s Bd, and other items, bringing the total up to £l9B Is 7d. Earnings.—Sales lighting £96 15s 3d, power and heat £72 11s sd; meter rent £3 ss, coke sales £32 11s 4d, tar sales £2O 2s 9d, weighing 12s 6d, fitting account £43 13s fid, services £6 16s 4d, labour, services and fitting, £1 16s 9d, miscellaneous £2 4s 9d, total £286 9s 7d. The report was adopted.
