EGGERS EXECUTED.
FIRM DEMEANOUR ON THE SCAFFOLD. PERSISTED THAT HE WAS INNOCENT. Christchurch, March 5. Frederick William Eggers, convicted of the murder of John CouL (hard at Runanga, on the West Coast, was executed at Lyttelton Gaol to-day. His demeanour on the scaffold was very firm. In a statement to the Sheriff, which the press was unable to obtain except in snatches, the murderer persisted that he did not do the shooting. Death was instantaneous.
