TOWN CLERK’S REPORT.
The Town Clerk reported at last night’s Council meeting as under : The road staff has been engaged almost exclusively on the work of tarring the Main Street during the past month. This work is almost completed, and I intend commencing work on the Avenue Road footpath as soon as sufficient tar is available.
Kerbing. —I would recommend that the matter of replacing the present wooden kerbing to this footpath with concrete, receive the consideration of the Council, as a satisfactory job cannot be made of the footpath with the' kerbing in its present state. I estimate the cost of kerbing from the Town Hall to Johnston Street (a distance of fourteen chains) at £35. Bridge, Harbour Street. —I would again bring before the Council the necessity of having the bridge over the Awahou Drain in Harbour Street replaced by a more permanent structure. This bridge is absolutely unsafe for heavy traffic, and should receive attention while the drain is dry, and the weather favourable. —The report was adopted, and it was decided that the bridge over the Awahou drain in Harbour Street be substituted by a culvert with 3ft. Gin. concrete pipes, 18ft. wide, and that a notice be posted up advising the public that the present bridge is unsafe for loads weighing more than two tons. It was also decided that the footpath on the south side of Avenue Road be kerbed with concrete in place of wood, as at present.
