The Gold Stars, which have been held by a local rink for some time, changed bauds yesterday, a challenging team from Levin beating the holders by nine points. The. game was very even until the last few heads. At the fifth head the board road five all, at the tenth the scores were 14 —8 in favour of Foxton, at the thirteenth it was 1(1 —!), but from this on Levin scored on all heads but one. The holders, however, had no difficulty in retaining the trophies, the margin in their favour at the conclusion of the game being 14 points. Foxton scored a single on, the first head, and Levin five on the second. The Foxton bowlers intend returning the Feilding Club’s visit on Wednesday week, the 18th instant, when it is hoped to get away four or live rinks to Feilding. All local players who wish to .make the trip are requested to put their names on the board at the green provided for the purpose, as early as possible.
The match for the Dixon Cup between a challenging 1 rink from Feilding, Head, Pirani, Mills, Harford (s), and the holders, Whitehead, Tattersall, J. A. Nash, N. H. Nash (s), Palmerston North, was played on the Palmerston green yesterday afternoon. On the 20th head Feilding were 3 up and looked like holding, but Nash secured 3 and the score was- even, 17 all. On the final head Palmerston were lying 2, and the Feilding skip (Halford) made a dead head. The 21st head had still to be played, and when the bowls of one, two and three were played Feilding was lying the shot. N. 11. Nash (skip) played a great shot, but failed to dislodge the winning lying bowl, and Feilding won by 18 to 17, after a strenuous and hard-fought game.
