■ A SERIOUS POSITION. INVESTIGATION BEING MADE. A fungoid growth has made, its appearance in Hu* flax area on the Riversdale Estate, and very serious damage lias been done, the whole swamp, comprising some 3,000 acres, being affected. Dr. Cockayne, the Government expert, is at present in the locality, and is making investigations. The position at present is very serious, as the whole of; the (lax, which has been in (he past sufficient to keep about eight strippers running continuously, is affected, and the Tune mill of four strippers has already had to close, and the Opui mill (four strippers) is at present only able to run one, and will have to close altogether shortly, as there will be no leaf availS able. The effect of the fungoid growth is that the roots decay and the leal; turns yellow, withers, and dies down altogether. It is feared ..that the trouble is spreading to other swamps. Our representative will pay a visit of inspection to the locality tomorrow, and fuller particulars will appear nest issue,
