TOWN CLERK’S REPORT.
The Town Clerk reported at last night’s Council meeting as follows; The road staff has been engaged on the following works during the past 1 month, viz!, metalling Johnstun, Union and Harbour Streets, and mowing grass at cemetery. It is proposed to proceed with the tarring of the Main Street as soon as the cemetery mowing is completed. I have accepted an offer from Mr R. IX Kemps ter of thirty shillings for the grass cut at the cemetery. After interviewing all the Councillors who could conveniently be reached on the matter of replacing Mr J. Parker on the road staff, I engaged Mr T. W. Mitchell, at 11s per day, to fill the vacancy. I have also to report that I have been called up for active sendee under the Military Service Act, 1910, and will be going before the Medical Board on Wednesday next. If passed for active service, I will probably not be going into camp before May next. This will enable me to complete the present years work and to have the accounts audited befoye leaving your service.
