THE GAS WORKS.
MANAGER’S REPORT,
The gas manager reported at last night’s Council meeting as follows; The amount of gas manufactured for the month of November shows a decrease as against last month, and you must expect a further decrease on account of the 0 o’clock closing of hotels. I connected two new consumers, one a private residence, and the other a gas engine. I renewed service pipe at Mr A. K. Speirs Russell Street, which was in a very bad state, and I intended to go over all services that pass over the open creeks, and which’ are exposed to the weather. lam pleased to report that the purifiers gave no trouble this month, because we carbonised no Westport -Stockton coal. I have had considerable trouble with the carbonising plant on account of the furnace sides burning through in places and interfering with the working of the secondary air, T hope to lie able toVopair same when ‘the tire clinkers up. , , ' NOVEMBER WORKING. The amount of gas manufactured during the month ol November was 421,500 ft., which, with the amount in holder on November Ist, 5,500 ft., made a total of 427,000 ft. the amount sold to consumers for lighting was 185,100 ft., for cooking and heating 115,500 ft., and for power 06,700 ft., 10,400 ft. was used in the street lamps, and 14,000 at the works and I lie manager’s house, and ■y there was 2,000 ft. in the holder on December Ist, leaving 25,400 ft., representing f> per cent, of the output, unaccounted for. Thirty-seven tons 13 cwt. of coal was carbonised, yielding 11,18« ft. per ton.
