SPRING SHOW.
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.
The local Horticultural Society’s annual Spring Show- will be held in the Town Hall on Thursday and Friday next. Entries for all sec lions close wiih Iho secretary at 9 o'clock this evening (late entries up to P o’clock to-morrow night). It is anticipated that there will ho keen competition in the sweet peas and roses sci tions, and some beautiful blooms may be anticipated. Those who have a “leg in” for the Society’s sweet pea trophy are: Miss Ross, 1914; Mrs Galland, 1915; Mrs Renton, 1916; the trophy has to he won three times before it becomes the property of the winner. The following have a “leg in” for the Witchell trophy in (he rose section (one rose) : Miss Olive Nye, 1914; Miss M. Nowth, 1915; Miss 0. Nye, 191(5; (his trophy has to be won three tinier before becoming the property of the winner. Those who have a “leg in” for Mrs A. S. Easton’s trophy (for three roses, named, twp blooms of each) to be won three times, are: Mrs Symes, 1915; Mrs Galland, 1916. 1 Three prizes are offered for the best cottage gardens (his year, The tea-room this year will he in charge of Mrs A. Baker, and in this connection the Society' invites donations of refreshments. Miss Woodroofe will have charge of the sweets stall, The Borough Band and Betty’s Orchestra, together with other musical and vocal Hems, will he submitted each evening. The State school entries this year constitue a record. The decorative classes promise well. Entiles in the school sections have already been received from Palmerston schools. Everything points to a most successful show this year.
