OPPOSITION TO A UNION.
Auckland, Yesterday. At the sitting of the Conciliation Council a petition signed by 682 employees was presented, objecting to the formation of a union in the soft goods trade, it being claimed that the union did not properly represent the interests of the trade. Mr Giles (Conciliation Commissioner) said the dispute was -properly entered, and he could not accept the petition. The employers’ representative agreed with the Commissioner’s ruling, adding that the dispute must go to the Arbitration Court. The Commissioner intimated that ho would state a case for the Arbitration Court. In the meantime, evidence will be taken, at the request of the union.
