NGARUAHOE IN ERUPTION.

After many signs of activity, Ml. Ngariihoe broke out into violent eruption last Avcek, culminating in an alarming outburst. On Tuesday night huge black clouds of ashes and steam Avith tongues of lurid ihime, Avere seen in (he early part of (he evening issuing from the crater to the accompaniment of the deep rumbles of subterranean explosions. Earth tremors were frequently felt, cruising a good deal of apprehension in the natit'e settlements near the base of the mountain. A targe area of open country on the AvimlAvard side, together with Iho suoav fields of Tongariro, have been covered Avith a deposit of light pumice ash. Clouds have obscured the upper heights of the volcano for the last fenv days, and though an occasional rumble is heard, it is impossible to say if the eruption continues on the same scale.
