A SUSPICIOUS FIRE.

ACCOUNTANT CHARGED WITH ARSON. Gisborne, 18th October. As a sequel lo an outbreak of fire in the office of the Gisborne Gas Company early this morning, police investigations are understood to have shown that the strong-room door was wide open, and inside two ledgers were propped open with tarred sticks. One of the lodgers was recovered partly burned. The safe was also found open, and the contents disarranged, and a fairly considerable sum of money was missing. Later, Detective M’Lcod arrested the company’s accountant, Frank Parnell, who was brought before the Magistrate and charged with arson in wilfully setting the premises' afire. The police were granted a remand for a week. Accused was admitted to bail, in self £IOO and sureties for a like amount.
