SECOND DIVISION.
FIRST BALLOT FIXED FOR 20th OCTOBER. The taking of the first ballot among members of the Second Division of the Expeditionary Force Reserve for the purpose of filling vacancies in the Reinforcement draffs has been definitely fixed for 20th October. This -will he taken from Class A (married men without children), and the Gazette containing the names drawn will be issued about 6th November. As the result of enquiries made by the Government Statistician regarding doubtful cases of the status of Reservists originally placed in Class A, thp number of men now ascertained to he in that category is 15,292. In addition, since the last ballot was taken, there have been accretions of 1,274 men from the First Division through men coming of age, etc. These latter will not l)c balloted for, and will he called up in the Gazette- en bloc. The ballot tints will he taken from the 15,292 men in Class A to make up shortages’. It is estimated that, with further accretions of First Division men during the next two months, the men in Class A will provide suffi,cient for three ballots. " The first ballot for class B (men with one child) should thus take place towards the close of January, The Minister of Defence has already announced that the first draft of Class A men will probably mobilise in March next.
