A SEVERE GALE.

GREAT DAMAGE DONE AT RUSSELL. Auckland, Yesterday, The severest gale for many years was experienced at Russell from 5 a..m. till midnight yesterday. Great damage was done to launches and ashore. One farmer estimates liis loss at £I,OOO. The Russell Public Hall was demolished. At Whangaraumu Mr Cook had a trying time saving his whaleship. Considerable damage was done to factories;'wharves, and jetties. A considerable quantity of whale oil was lost.
