THE RAUMAI TRAGEDY.
ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR ; TRIAL. Palmerston N., July 9. At the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr W. G. K. Kenriek, S.M., George Jackson was charged that at Raumai, on June 29th, he did kill Thomas Claud Grammer Jackson by stabbing him with a knife. Evidence was given to the effect that the Jackson family and three friends were at dinner when a knock was beard at the door. Accused and Mrs Jackson went out. When George Jackson returned to the din- : ing-room bo kicked his chair into a, corner, and Tom told him to behave himself. Jackson replying that lie would do as he liked in his own house. Accused picked up a knife and suM, “1 will run this into your guts.” Tom jumped up and told him to put the knife down. Accused came partly round the corner of the table and struck at Tom with the knife which was in his hand. He then threw down the knife and said, “There, I told yon.” Tom came round the corner of the table and struck his father, the latter falling to the door. Tom was making a further attempt to hit his father when he was pulled aside. The boy then went outside. He was carried and put to bed. Ho was taken to the Palmerston Private Hospital, where he died next morning. Jackson reserved his defence, and was committed for trial.
