SEDITION CHARGE.
p. (\ WEBB AGAIN -BEFORE THE COURT. Christchurch, Yesterday. The adjourned trial of P. C. Webb, for alleged seditious utterances on the West Coast, was resumed in the Police Court this morning. Sir John Findlay appeared for the accused, and with him Mr J, A. Cassidy. The Crown counsel, Mr Raymond, dealt first with the Greymonth speech, and submitted that Web)), by that speech, indicated a total lack of appreciation of the fact that the country was at war. Constable M’Mahon gave evidence as to taking notes of the speech. Sir John' Findlay closely crossexamined the constable -as to the accuracy of his notes. Corroborative evidence was given regarding the speech. Constable Black said he heard Webb’s speech regarding conscription, and after the meeting he read M’Mahon’s transcript notes, which wore correct.
This closed the ease for Hie frown, and the Court adjourned till this afternoon.
