MAYORAL INSTALLATION.
A special statutory meeting of Ihe Foxton Borough Council was held at noon yesterday for ihe purpose of installing the Mayor-elect, Mr .John Chryslall, and taking the attestations of Councillors. There were present; The retiring Mayor (Mr Alf. Fraser), Mayor-elect (Mr John Chryslall), and Crs Coley, V,bilker, Thompson, Stevenson, Henderson, Hurley, Me Murray and Bryant. An apology for absence was received from Cr MeColl, The Councillors made the declaration and took their seals.
Mr Fraser heartily eongratulaled all members of Ihe old Council avlio had been re-elected, and said dial the result of the elect ion Avas proof positive that their actions during (he past two years had met with (he approval of the ratepayers. Of seven old Councillors that again offered ilicit' services, all were re-el-ected hut one. lie was confident dial the affairs of the borough were quite safe in Ihe hand- of the new Conned. He eongratulaled Mr Chryslall. and expressed the hope that he would have just ;is pleasant a term of office as he (the speaker) had had. dial the same good feeling would e\is| 111 <I that they would all work together for die good of ihe borough. During die past two years, although there had been differences of opinion al limes, the utmost good feeling had always existed, and he fell sure this would eonlinue in the future. Mr Chryslall then made the usual declaration, and look' hi- seal. He -aid tie was fully cognisant of the burden of responsibility that was on Ids shoulder-, and with die help of die Councillors would do his best to iiirdier die interests of the borough. He congratulated Cr Coley on ins -access al the poll and again occupying die position of Senior Councillor. He was glad that the horoligii were again to have his services, particularly in public works. Ho also eongratulaled the other Councillors, and expressed the hope that they would gel on harmoniously together and assist him to uphold (Indignity of the chair in the same manner is ids predecessor had done. He thanked Mr Fraser for his kindly remarks, and also expressed appreciation of the splendid sendees he had rendered (he borough. He could assure him he had the hearty good wishes and thanks of Ihe great majority of townspeople. He also desired to express appreciation of Hie good work ol Mrs Fraser in patriotic matters. Her cheerful personality and ungrudging Avork hnd been of much assistance in this connection. Mr Fraser thanked Mr Chryslall, on iiehall ol Mrs Fraser and hintself, for his very Haltering remarks. During Ins two years of olliee lie had tried to do his duty and (o know that his efforts had been appreciated was suflieient reward.
