THE LATE W. S. STEWART.
The funeral of the late W. S. Stewart took place yesterday afternoon. The body arrived from To Awanmlu by the afternoon train, and was mot at the station by a number of ex-pupils, and escorted to All Saints' Church, the school cadets, under Gapt. .Gahiles. acting as a guard of honour. The service at ihe church, of which the deceased was so long an active olliee hearer, was most impressive, and was conducted by (lie vicar, the Rev. Win. Ifaine. The casket was covered with a number of heaulilnl wreaths, forwarded by the State school staff and scholars and friends of the deceased. As the body left the church tiie bead March was played by the organist, Miss Hetty. The Masons, of which body the deceased was a Inundation member and Hast Master, headed the funeral cortege, and after the church service had concluded ut the graveside, carried out the Masonic funeral ceremony. Wor. Hro. 1 Jerry, W.M.. assisted by R. Wor. Hro. d. A. Nash and (he Rev. .1. il. Hredin, took the service, tin- brethren joining in with the response-. and in the singing of the hymns. At the conclusion the brethren each dropped a sprig of acacia in the grave.
The pall-hearers were: His Worship the Mayor (Mr dolm Chry-
-la!!), R. Aloore, and the following ex-pupils of ihe 'deceased: Messrs K. 11. Furrie. M. E. Perrean, IE N. Sped'.-, and F. D. Whihley. Mr C. Archibald, nephew of deceased, Avas chief mourner.
