CROQUET.
Vesterday afternoon the local croquet lawns presented a very animated appearance, being fully occupied hy players from about 2 o’clock until dusk, and (here were also a large number of spectators. The occasion was a visit from members of Ibe Levin Ladies’ Croquet Club, Ihe visitors turning up in force, four motor cars bijirij*’ used to convey (hem. The afternoon’s play was devoted to a twentyminutes tournament for a trophy presented by Mrs J'arkes. The play throughout was most interesting and enjoyable, and at (he conclusion of the tournament Mrs Clark, president of (he Levin Club, and Mrs IVrreau (Foxton) were equal with 22 hoops each. It was then too late to [day off, so the loaders drew, and Mrs Clark - was successful. Altogether the afternoon was one of the most enjoyable yet spent on the local lawns. The visitors were hospitably entertained by the local players, and before leaving expressed thanks for the enjoyable time they had spent. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs Freeman. Arrangements have been made for the local ladies to visit Levin on Wednesday week.
