WAR PENSIONS.
DOMINION'S BIG BILE. Sixty new claims were dealt with by the War Pensions Board last week, and ,113 renewals. Of the new claims 2!) were from soldiers and 31 from dependents. Of the soldiers live were granted pensions and 21 allowances, two were declined, and one adjourned. Of the dependents, 18 were granted pensions and two temporary pensions, 8 were declined, and 3 adjourned. Of the renewals, 88 were continued, six to be Jinal; 18 were ordered to cease forthwith, four were converted into pensions, and in three cases applications for increases were refused.
Up to the present 4,47!) soldiers’ claims have been lodged, out of; a total of nearly 7,000 discharges. They have been dealt with as follows: —OS!) have got pensions, 3,037 temporary pensions, 427 have boon declined, 7 adjourned, and 10 are on hand.
Dependents have put in 2,57!) claims (.out of (1,300 deaths and missing). Of these 2,050 have been granted pensions and 250 temporary pensions; 248 have been declined and ten adjourned, ami there are 21 on hand. Animal values are as under:— Soldiers, £52,333, average £52. Wives and widows (-130) ,(M2,703, average £9B. Other dependents (1,(114) ,047,003, average ,020; temporary allowances (3,287) ,0180,323, average .050. Totals: 0,320 pensions; annual value .0328,452, average £sl, reducible by (approximately) £OO,OOO leaving a net annual liability of about £208,000. DEN SION LIABILITY. At the end of February the animal value of all pensions (apart from those dependent on contributions) was, £837,000 —old-age £481,400, widows £39,500, military (Maori war veterans) £44,040, miners £10,500, war £201,000.
