TOWN CLERK’S REPORT.
The Town Clerk reported as follows on the working of the borough tor the past month at last night’s Council meeting: — “I have the honour to report as follows: The road staff has been engaged on the following works during the past month, viz.—Piping Awahou drain, tarring Alairt Street, tarring foot crossings in Main Street, and genera! maintenance work. It is proposed to proceed with the tarring of the Main Street, faeining of the Johnston Street cutting, cleaning drains, and general maintenance work during the present month. Fire Bell.—-On looking into the matter of shifting the-(ire bell, in accordance with the recommendation of the Works Committee, I found that this would be impossible unless the structure was dismantled, owing to the telephone cables blocking (he way. If this structure is dismantled it may be found necessary to renew most <d the heavy timber, as it is in very poor condition. Before taking any further action I would be pleased to receive the Council's opinion in the matter.
