HOWAN STREET.
OVERGROWN WITH NOXIOUS-*-WEEDS. Mr Kami waited upon the Borough Couneil last night in respect to the neglected state of Rowan Street. Mr Rand said he had been a resident in Ho wan Street for the past 30 years, and very little had been done to the street during that j period. The Couneil had promised to blind the metal, but when be bad asked that this work be done lie bad been told that the Couneil had no funds. The road was new overgrown with noxious weeds, and it was ditlieult for him to drive his trap through it. It was like driving through a hush, and was with blackberries, lupin and gorse. It was “jolly hard lines’* that thing should be done to the road in 30 vears.
The Mayor said the Council was not responsible for the noxious growths on the road. These should he removed by the owners of
the property. Cr Coley said the Council had decided to blind the road years ago, but nothing had been done. The road was a disgrace to the borough and it was almost impossible to drive along it wit bout damaging the vehicle. The lupins were 12 ft. high. The owners of the land should be prosecuted for not taking action to keep the road clear. It seemed a waste of time to complain, to the noxious weeds inspector, as he did not take action. The Government had a-reserve in the locality. but the other owners were well-to-do and should he compelled to clear the road. Cr Thompson -aid the road was in a shocking stale. Cr Bryant ,-aid it was impossible to drive a vehicle along the road. The Mayor said he was under the impression that the lupins had been grubbed on the ryad last: spring. The Mayor informed Mr Kami that his complaint would he looked into by the Couneil.
