SUGGESTED DUTY ON MOTOR TYRES.
OPPOSED BY BOROUGH COUNCIL. AI last: night's Borough Council meeting a circular letter was read from (lie McKenzie County Council, asking that (he Government impose a tax on motor tyres, the revenue from same to he utilised for the maintenance of arterial roads. Cr Coley said he was prepared to support a tax on motor cars, but not on tyres. The Mayor said he had no doubt but that the Government would in the near future levy a tax on motor ears. ■ Cr Simmons opposed the proposal, as motor parts were already heavily taxed. He moved, and Cr Coley seconded, that this Council is not in favour of imposing suggested duty on motor tyres.—Carried.
