AMOUNT STEADILY MOUNTING UU. The War Pensions Hoard last week dealt altogether will) 280 eases, of which number 140 were new claims, 77 renewals of temporary pensions, oil were reviews of annua! pensions, ami 8 were special cases. Of Ihe 404 elaims 2 were granted penimne.nl pensions, 88 temporary pensions, 8 were declined, and 3 adjourned, in the eases of 30 dependents’ claims, 20 were granted pensions, 4 allowances, and (i declined. Of the 77 renewals (12 were continued for varying amounts (li of these to he Huai payments), 14 are to cease forthwith, and 4 was converted to a permanent pension. Of the Mi eases reviewed, 24 related to soldiers’ pensions and 32 lo dependents, in regal'd lo (he 24 soldiers' applications for review, 10 pensions are lo he continued and 14 applicants are to he again medically examined. The allowances lo the 32 dependents are lo lie continued. The grand total of claims deal! with to date is: Soldiers, 1)78 pensions, 3.001 allowances, 417 declined, (i adjourned, and 1.1 on hand, total 4,4.13; dependents, .1,000 pensions, 230 temporary pensions, 234 declined, 8 adjourned, and 38 on hand, total 2,518. (u four eases in which soldiers applied for variation of their grants the hoard decided lo adhere to the present scale. Three dependent mothers had their pensions increased from 10s lo 15s a week, and the allowance of one dependent was cancelled on account of the recipient’s habits.
The annual values of the pensions grunted to date are; —Soldiers 978'
pensions, valued at €51,820, an average of €52 per pension; wives and widows 431, annual value €41,982, an average of €'97 per pension; other dependents 1,508, annual value €45,471, average £29; temporary pensions 3,240, annual value £18,259, average £SO; grand total 0,217 pensions, valued at €321,858. Twelve hundred persons who were granted pensions or allowances are not from various reasons, off the books, reducing the annual liability to £201,000. During the week 123 new pensions of an annual value of €7903 were granted, making the total amount involved for the month of February £25,694.
