MOUTOA SCHOOL.

PICNIC AND PRIZE DISTRIBUTION.

The annual picnic of the Moutoa school was held last week. The weather was line, and there was a large attendance. Games of all kinds were indulged in, and everybody declared they had a good time. A programme of races was gone through in the afternoon, and each child was a winner, as all received a prize. One of the events of the day was a tug-of-war between the single and married men. After a strenuous straggle, the married men were declared victors. There were two races for married women. One was won by Airs 11. Prier, with Mrs Dudson a good second. The other was won by Mrs Hillman, with Airs Whitlock second. The young ladies’ race resulted in a, dead heat between Aliss G. AlcSavney and Aliss A. Spring. Alarried men's ra.ee: Air Boswell .1, Mr Lash and Mr Wilkins dead heat for second. In the run off Mr "Wilkins won. Young men's race; Air L. Pigolt 1, Mr J). Coley 2. The committee wish to thank the business people of Shannon and .Foxton, who donated the prizes for the various events. Just after tea the chairman (Air W. J. Rees) presented each pupil with a handsome hook. Special prizes were awarded as follows: —Airs Green specials, for most popular boy and girl, were won by Alaster L. Levell and Aliss A. Lovett; Airs Scadden’s specials, for most marks in tin* term examinations, were awarded in Alaster B. Alohekey and Miss V. Lcvclt ; specials for diligence were given to Master J, LaMi (Mr Shawm special) and Aliss A. Spring: a special for attendance was given Alaster T. Jeffreys. The headmaster (Mr Galium!) and assistant (Miss M. Gugiee) were the recipients of tokens of the esteem in which llicv are held.
