LADIES’ GUILD.
ANNUAL REPORT. The following is the annual report of the Ladies’ Guild for the year ended December 31st, 1916: — “In presenting the balance-sheet for the year ending December 31st, 1916, we would like the members and all interested in the Guild to know how the time and money is being spent. During the year the amount spent totals £215 7s 2d. Me forwarded to ‘Wellington four cases to the Lady Liverpool Committee, live cases to the British Red Cross .Society, four large cases to London —one being for the Naval Heroes’ Dependents, one for the .Servians, and two for the Belgians. Each of (lusc cases contained quite 200 garments, 256 housewifes, and 216 holdalls we sent for the men in cam]). Included in the cases torwarded to Wellington were 141 pairs of sox. With the exception of: two dozen pairs these were ail handknitted. We arc sorry to say that the attendance of workers fell otf considerably towards Christmas, and has not yet recovered. Wo must remember that the weather or holidays or other reasons make no difference to the men at file front or in hospital —their needs do not wait. We hope to see all the old helpers’ hack-again, and will welcome every new one who can come or is willing to lake work home. Do -not let ns gel tired because the newness has worn off —the soldiers are not asked if they are tired. As lung as ihe war lasts our help is needed. The Committee wishes to thank the ‘Manuwatu Herald’ for giving publicity to the affairs of the Guild during the year, and Mr Pearson for auditing the accounts; also all those who have subscribed to the Guild’s funds or helped in any other way. The Guild has just received an appeal from the Red Cross Society, asking for pyjamas, day-shorts, dressing-gowns, hospital shirts, bandages of all descriptions, and sox. Will all those who can possibly help come to the Guild or send for some work to help us continue to do a little for those who are doing so much?” The ha la nee-sheet shows that the receipts, including amount brought forward from the previous year totalled £339 (is sd, being made up of: Amount in bank and hand at beginning of year £lsl 3s 2d, donations £4B 3s od, special efforts (concerts, competitions, etc.), £136 ,15s (id, refund money order not claimed £3 4s ltd.
