A FOXTON FRIEND ABROAD.

Tin* many Foxton Friends of Mr ■I, Huglass will bo pleased to hear llml lie* has arrived safely in the Old Country and is emgaged in one of the big munition works at Bari row-in-Fnrtmss. Referring to his I rip, lie* writes : “We* had a good passage home* via Sydney, Albany, Capetown and Dakar, arriving in London on June Kith. We had a Jew days in London sight-se*e*ing. One* o f I in* most interesting of all, from a colonial's point of view, is the* underground electric railway, or tubes, as they call them. At some of the* busy stations they have* inimemse* lifts for taking tin* people up to the street lcvi*l, and at some* they have moving stairways, which run on (he principle* of an emdlcss chain. Whim one wants to go |o a lower level one just hops on to the stair and stands till you come to the lower platform, and then hop oft: again. At most of these* stations there are* (wo lines of railway, one below the* oilier, and il seemi'd to give one the impression as of rabbits' warrens to se*c the people disappearing into the* darkness. However, there* is no question hut wind they tire* the* most e-otivemienl way of gelling to tiny parliemlar place* you want to go to. Of course*, if you want to see the street life you newel to go on n 'bus. We* also spent a few days in Edinburgh, ;imi then earne to Harrow. The-re* are* eight or nine* picture shows going here every week, and all of litem have* two houses each night. We* have he*en twice to see the war pictures, but our pleasure was somewhat marred because* smoking without i*e*slraint is permitted in all purls of tin* house, and by the* lime the show is over you fee*! as if you have had enough. Mrs Huglass is keeping well, and joins with me in sending our kind regards to tin* trie-mis in Eoxloti, and tire looking forward to tin* day whim we emu step ashore til Welling ton and eateh the* 'bus at Shannon."
