YOUNG GIRL’S BAD START.
The young girl arrested for theft at the Foxton races last Tuesday, and remanded to Palmerston, appeared before Mr J. W. Boynton, S.M., yesterday afternoon. Detec-tive-Sergeant Quirke prosecuted, and said there was a list of live charges against accused, committed during the last few days, as follow-; — (1) At Foxton did steal a handbag containing £1 lbs; (2) at Patmerston did steal a blouse valued at Ids; (3) at Palmerston did steal a black leather puise containing the sum of 4s: (4) at Palmerston did stead a skirl valued at £1 Ids; and (5) did steal 7s (Id in money. Tim detective said the girl bad visited the homes of most of Ibe people concerned as a Friend, and daring the owner's temporary absence look the articles. The accused bad committed a theft ol Co in December last at Hastings, and seemed to be out of her parents' control altogether. They were willing that some form of restraint should be placed upon her. The Industrial Schools Act, 1 DOS, would permit of tins being done, ffis Worship: You are making a bad start, but it is imperative that some deterrent should be placed upon you for your own sake. \ou will be sentenced to one month s imprisonment. and at the expiration of the term, his Fxcellency tin 1 Governor will be asked to transfer you to an industrial school under Seclion 2o of the Industrial Schools Act, 1 DOS.
