STATE MEAT.

R ECORD BUSINESS DON I

A report has been received by the (’resident of the Board of Trade (the Hon. W. 1). S, MacDonald) from the secretary to the Board rein tiny to the first day's business at the two Stale butchers' shops which have been opened at Auckland in order to control the retail price of meat.

The report stales: •‘The first day's business at the State meat shops constitutes a record, despite adverse conditions, it being an exceedingly hot day. Business at the saleyards on Wednesday had evidently been a,heeled through the scheme. Beef prices were normal; mutton prices were from 2s to 3s less than last week's rates. Everything is going along satisfactorily, and strong evidence has been evinced generally that the scheme >houid be extended.’’
