FRIENDLY SOCIETIES’ PICNIC.

There Avas a very large attendance at the picnic and sports held in Victoria Park on Ncav Year’s Day under the auspices of the Palmerston North Friendly Societies, the special trains being avcll patronised. The day was an ideal one for the purpose, and the function Avas one of the most successful yet held. The net proceeds arc to he devoted to the New Zealand Tobacco Fund. During the Day the Foxton Borough Band played a number of selections, Avhich added to the enjoyment of those present. The following are the results of the sports events: — Boy’s Race (under 14). —Weston 1, Norris 2. Girls’ Race (under 14). —Ivy Lacey 1, Myrtle Robb 2. 75 Yards Handicap (open).— Crew 1, McEwen 2. Friendly Societies’ Boys’ Race. — Bastin 1, Weston 2. Friendly Societies Ladies’ Race. Mrs Waldon 1, Mrs Turner 2.
