SUPREME COURT.
PALMERSTON SESSIONS. The quarterly sessions at the Supreme Court opened before Air Justice Edwards on Tuesday. The Grand Jury threw out a charge againsl, Andrew Hiilhven Buchanan of alleged carnal knowledge, and returned a true hill against. Emily Amelia Callaghan, who laid the latter charge, for alleged extortion by threats. Henry Johnson, on a charge of breaking and entering and stealing a lady’s oven-oat, live pairs of spectacles, and a set of military hair brushes, a silver wrilslet watch and a pair of scissors, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and declared lo be an habitual criminal. Emily .Amelia Callaghan, charged with endeavouring to extort £1,009 from Andrew Rut liven Buchanan by threats, pleaded guilty. The accused’s lawyer entered a plea for leniency, staling that she was iu a highly excited condition when she sent the letter to Buchanan asking for (he money, as she really believed that he had seduced her daughter.
