ENTERTAINMENTS.

“OUR PICTURES.” The over popular Metro Pictures will he represented to-night by a. s,t)ooft. star drama, and a strong list of supporting items. The programme, headed by “The House of

Tears,” is indeed an excellent one. This exciting melodrama story features Emily Stevens, and the charming manner in which this talented young actress performs a difficult part lends additional interest to (he iiim. Miss Stevens plays the dual characters of mother and daughter in this picture, and the splendid examples of double exposure photography call for favourable comment. The story arises from the separation of Robert Colliugwood from his wife. Robert is given the custody of the only child. Disappointed in business, he becomes a. raving maniac, and while bent'on a vicious (-rime falls and is killed. The daughter, Alice, has an annuity settled upon her, with which she completes her education. Meanwhile Mi’s Colliugwood has married again, but is deserted by her husband. The latter electrifies speculators by a phenomenal rise to fortune. In the pursuit of her duties, Alice? meets this man, and their acquaintance ripens into love. In due time their betrothal is announced. The announcement is seen by the girl’s mother and the real wife of the financier. Her timely arrival prevents the marriage, and the financier in a fit of frenzy is mortally injured. Mother and daughter, then re-united, seek a happier existence. There are a series of enjoyable and varied supporting subjects. FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. Something quite extraordinary even for “Our Pictures” will be screened on Friday and Saturday, a World Film production, “The Heart of the Blue Ridge,” featuring Clara Kimball Young. In the present stage of human ingenuity it is impossible for an individual to duplicate or multiply himself or herself. This is a pity in respect lo the famous motion picture artist, Clara Kimball Young, whose work is in such strong demand by exhibitors and the public that if is a physical impossibility to satisfy it. In the part of “Plutina,” Miss Young has a part which brings out her very varied emotional gifts to perfection and gives her a chance of putting over a very strong offering indeed. The story concerns the doings of some picturesque people in the moonshine country, and there is a very powerful plot to it. Plnfiua hits a pet bear and two lovers who fight for and over her; then they light among themselves —the bad one is killed —(he good one survives and marries Plutina. The richness of the setting, the beauty and vigour of Alias Young’s impersonation, have made a veritable sensation both in England and America. The popular young actor, Mr Chester Barnett, is also included in the cast, which is exceedingly powerful.
