MANAGER’S REPORT
Since last report two services have been laid, and fwo meters fixed, and filttings have been installed in one dwelling. Other new' supplies are on order, and two more large cookers are inquired for. \Vo have now 05 large cookers and 30 grilling stoves in use. Twenty-nine cookers have been fixed since the price of gas was revised twelve months ago. Although the demand for gas has been rather poor during the past month, while (he mills were closed, yet w r e have sold 110,000 feat more through private consumers’ meters than is shown for (lie corresponding month of last year. Twenty tons of coal were taken in since last meeting. A small consignment of this coal was of a. very poor quality for gas making purposes, and (he result was that our customers were subjected to a very trying experience for a few days. Although we stopped using the coal at once, it was some days before the objectionable smell of free sulphur passed off. As decided at your last meeting, the lamp by Ihe railway crossing in. AVliarf Street has been moved to a more serviceable position. In reference to the condition of the clock con-trollers,-1 am having these put in order as time permits. The docks arc in very fair condition, and with regular winding, and in the cave of a weekly servant in place of so many contractors, I see no reason why 1 ho siiiic results cannot he obtained that we were getting some 18 months ago. The internal parts of the controllers are really good, and seem as perfect as when new T , and if a change does not take place with the present change' of attendant, !ln*n I am prepared to suggest a different system of lighting for your consideration.
