FOXTON PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the Society was held at the Council Chamber on Thursday night, a fair number being' present, and the president (Mr A. Eraser) in the chair*. The secretary reported that the returns from the Patriotic Shop were showing a steady increase, the last live Saturdays having raised the average from £7 15s to £8 Is per week. The receipts from the shop now total £237 11s Id. The opening of the patriotic boxes this month has been disappointing, only about £2O having been realised for May and -Tune, which is less than any single previous month. The collectors report that householders seem to be losing sight of the main idea, of the system, which is that small amounts should be placed in the box often, and not that the box should only be thought of when the collector arrives at the door, when perhaps it is not convenient to give as large a donation for the month as houseducted in the Methodist Church on feels that little ads of seif-denial will fill the boxes much quicker than any other means. The total received to date from this scheme is £124 10s. It was decided to place £SOO on fixed deposit at the Bank of Now Zealand for twelve months. The first rehearsal for the patriotic concert to be held in aid of the dependents of the heroes of our Navy will be held at Ail Saints’ schoolroom on Monday evening next. All members of the choruses of the last concert are earnestly requested to be present, and any new volunteers will be welcomed. This concert promises to eclipse all previous efforts.'
The Patriotic Shop is open to-day as usual, under, the care of Mrs Groig and Miss J. Ross.
