BOROUGH COUNCIL
The ordinary meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was heU last night. Present : The Mayor (Alt. Fraser, Esq.), Crs Henderson, 0. Wltiblev. McColl, Simmons, Bryant, Thompson, Freeman and Geo. Coley. Minutes of previous meeting were read and continued, and reports adopted. It was decided to lock' the gate leading to the rubbish depot and keep the key at the Council Chambers, where those 1 requiring it would sign for same. Cr Coley said the carters did not go far enough into the depot when unloading rubbish.
Cr Bryant said rubbish had been dumped on the roadside near the racecourse reserve.

Correspondence was received from the Minister of Internal Affairs, acknowledging grants of £l2 19s for the Serbian Relief Fund and £53 for the-Belgian Relief Fund. From the Municipal Association executive, covering resolutions to be submitted to. Parliament, respecting proposed amendments to municipal legislation.
The Mayor read letters in connection with the appointment of the new Town Clerk, and the replies received. From what he could gather, Mr Wafers would prove equal to the responsibilities. The Paeroa Borough Council regretted his resignation. He would lake up his duties as soon as his successor wasinstalled at Paeroa, which would probably be this week. The Council went into committee re gas worksuml other matters. Ppon resuming. Cr Simmons called attention to the necessity for repairing the tree guards in several streets. The Mayor said he had already conferred with the borough foreman on the subject, and the tree-, would be protected.

The Council decided not to lake any further action at present. On the motion of Crs Henderson and Whibiey, a rote of thank’s was accorded the Mayor for tha work ha had done in the absence of I lie Town Clerk. Cr Whibiey said when the electors elected Mr Fraser to the position as Mayor that did not include the position of deputy Town Clerk’. The work he had dona was outside his Mayoral duties, and he had had to sacrifice his private business. Others spoke in a similar strain. Tha Mayor thanked tin* Council for its appreciation, and paid a tri bate to Miss Barthold, the very able assistant. He intended to ask (he Council when tin* new Town Clerk was installed, lo mark its appreciation of Miss Barthold’s services during the vacancy by voting her a bonus. The Council rose at !) pan.
