FULLER’S PICTURES
An excellent .programme was screened at the Town Hall last evening, featuring the Selig Company’s star picture, “The Carpet from Ragdad,” a story of* ancient Ragdad, famed in song and story, of soothsayers, of eryslalLga/.er.-, and of how a precious prayer-rug was boldly siialehed from ihe innermost shrine of a sacred mosque, passed from hand to hand, ami ol how, in its travels, Ihe nig imperilled the lives of two men and a beautiful young woman. An exciting romance of plot and counter-plot ; of the fatalism of tin* Far East ; ol caravans and of an oasis in the desert. Then- is a Sahara sand storm ; a conspiracy on the part" ol an international baud of crooks ; and it remained lor Fortune, the innocent girl, to finally solve tile intrigue. Supporting items consist of a marvellous nature study Him, “Birdland Studies,” the “European Gazette,” ami a Vilagraph comedy, “Tin* Honeymoon Baby.
WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY
A special feature of Wednesday's change of programme is the great four reel photoplay, made popular in the Dominion by Bland Holt and Company, “The Derby Winner.” This magnilieeut military drama contains all the elements ol popularity, and was one id the revered Bland Hob’s biggest successes in Australasia. Briefly, tin* Gory concerns the fort lines of Lord liesborough and Lady Muriel Deshorough. In Ids early youth Lord Desborough, then a lieutenant in the British Army, stationed in Lidia, met Vivian d’Arville and fell desperately in love with her. only to fin (I out she was a married woman. Later he meets Lady Muriel—it is a ease of love at first sight on both sales —and (hey are married. The arrival of a sou and heir makes their happiness complete. Major Mosivu, a disgrace to the British uniform, is desperately jealous of Lord Desborough, and by the aid of Vivian d’Arville brings Lord Desborough to ruin. How Dick disco\ ered the real scoundrel who had betrayed his sweetheart, and bow be rode Clipsioue to victory, restoring (he fortunes of the Desboroughs. and uniting again Lord and Lady Desborough, is only one of the many exciting scenes of a drama replete wit It ckarm.
