SCHOOL SANITATION.
At Thursday night's meeting of the local Stale school Committee, the subject of improved sanitation was discussed. Air AlcAlurray moved Unit an estimate he obtained for the erection of a septic tank. He said the present pan system was not in the best interests of the children’s health, and the amount the Committee was paying annually to (he Council for removal would in a. few years pay the cost of the septic tank. Dr Mi null seconded the motion pro forma. He did not think the present system was a grave menace to the health of the children, hut a septic tank, provided arrangements could he made for the drainage of the effluent and a sufficient Witter supply, would he a desirable improvement . A hot air engine for pumping would not he very costly. The Chairman agreed with the propositi, hut it Wits a matter of finance. The payment to the Council was it drain on the Committee’s finances. Before the present Act Wits amended, the Board paid half oct of nightsoil removal ; now the Committee had to pay the full amount. The Council had been approached to forego the sanitation charge, hut had refused to assist the Committee. Individual Councillors had subsequently promised to support an application for a grant, ’flic Committee was paying 17s per pan, which amounted to £8 per year.

Tlic mol ion was carried, and Mr McMun*ay was authorised to obtain full particulars, to he submitted at next Committee meeting.
