This is poor consolation, however, and Mrs Ocumpaugh rsolves by some means or other to become possessed of a baby which she can call her own. She approaches a certain Dr Peel, who in consideration of a cheque for 10,000 dollars promises to arrange the matter for her. Peel makes the acquaintance of Valerie Carew, an aclress, who is about to become a mother. The matter is rendered more easy by the fact that Phil Ocumpaugh, the millionaire, is called away to some mines of which he is the chief proprietor. His absence is protracted, and when he returns the baby has been born and the transfer effected. A detective is guarding it, but one night while everyone is in (he house, the child disappears. The mother is suspected, but as a matter of fact she had nothing to do with it. The end of the play shows who took it, and it is a pleasant surprise. The supporting items are : “Topical Budget,” “Jealousy” (drama), Dimples and the Ring” (comedy).
