FOXION PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the Society was held on Thursday evening last at the Council Chamber. Mr A. Fraser (President) in the chair, and a good number of members. It was decided to conform to the arrangements made by the Borough Council with regard to Auzac Day, which consisted of a memorial service during the afternoon and a recruiting meeting in the evening. The clergymen of the' town were to be asked to make all arrangements, .but on account of the Revs Bredin and Rowe‘being away on Anzac Day the service will be left in the hands of the Rev Raiue. The evening tneetiug will be addressed by Dr A. K. Newman, M.P., and Mr E. Hadfield, of Wellington, and will also take the form of a welcome to the soldiers who have returned to Foxton from the Front. Eadies will be asked to provide refreshments, and all else will be provided by the Society. Some difficulty has been met in regard to securing the Town Hall for the evening meeting, so that no final arrangements regarding the Hall have so far been made. Several cases of necessity with regard to wounded soldiers were dealt with.
It was decided that in future in collecting money from the Patriotic Boxes, that no count should be made of the individual boxes, and that only the total amount collected during the mouth should be published. The next monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, the nth of May.
The Patriotic Shop last Saturday under the charge ot Mrs H. Greig and Miss J. Ross was opened as usual, and did good business. Mrs Baker and Miss Speirs will take charge on Saturday next.
