HARVEST THANKSGIVING.

Harvest thanksgiving services were held in the local Methodist Church on Sunday. Members of the congregation were successful in collecting an abundance of fruit, vegetables and produce, and these were very artistically arranged in tiers in front of the pulpit, while greenery and flowers set off other parts of the interior, which presented a very attractive appearance, in keeping with the nature of the service. The preacher tor the day was the Rev Mr Rowe, who delivered appropriate addresses on both occasions to good congregations. For the morning the discourse was on “The Palm Tree,’’ and the various lessons were applied to the Christian life. The remarks in the evening were based on Jeremiah viii., 20, “The harvest is passed, the summer is ended, and we .are not saved.” Harvest hymns were sung, and the special music of the choir, under the baton of Mr Sherratt, was a special feature of the services. Miss D. Signall contributed a solo entitled, “The Harvest is Passing,” which was very effective. The harvest gifts were disposed of last evening by Dutch auction, Mr Bullard acting as auctioneer. The whole effort was very successful.
