SHOCKING FATALITY.

MAN BURNED TO DEATH IN MOTOR CAR. Auckland, March 2. A shocking motor fatality occurred on Tuesday night near Pokeno, when John Peters, postmaster at Kaiaua, was burned to death in a motor car. Mr Peters had spent the day in Auckland, and was returning to Kaiaua from Pokeno. He arrived at the farm of Mr Stubbs, ot Mangatangl, and the latter offered to drive him to Kaiaua in his motor. He instructed a Maori named Rangi to fill the tank with benzine, but Rangi poured in kerosene by mistake, and Mr Stubbs had to pump the liquid back again. The car was in an iron garage, with Mr Peters silting in the front seat of the motor, and Rangi at the back. Apparently Mr Stubbs also pumped out a residue of benzine, for there was a violent explosion and he was blown out of the doorway. Rangi was blown through the window, and Peters was sent up to the root, tailing back into the blazing car, and being burned to death. Rangi was badly cut, and Mr Stubbs was severely shaken, but rode fifteen miles for assistance.

The car, which was worth was not insured.
