The Moutoa Indies’ Guild acknowledges a donation of £5 from Mr Greig towards the Wounded Soldiers’ Fund. The next meeting of the Girls’ Guild will be held In the Council Chambers on Tuesday, January nth. All offertories at All Saints’ Church on Christmas Day will be donated to the local Patriotic Society, for the Wounded Soldiers’ Fund. A delightful garden party was tendered to Dr. and Mrs KerrHislop and Mr and Mrs Boyes by the Rev- and Mrs Raine at the vicarage yesterday afternoon. Mr M. E. Perreau has a very fine show of Christmas confectionery in his shop window, very suitable for presents. We acknowledge and reciprocate the season’s greetings from the President of the New Zealand Master Printers’ Association.

Business locally during the week has been very brisk and from present indications the business this Christmas should be quite up to that of past years. The Queen of the South, with general from Wellington, arrived at n o’clock this morning. The local management ot Fuller’s Btd., announce a special holiday programme for Monday and Tuesday next, with a matinee on Monday, at 2.30 p.ra. Wednesday and Thursday’s programme includes “ The Icon’s Cubs,” a stirring patriotic drama, exposing the German Spy system. The members of the hospital ship Marama speak in terms of appreciation of the gift of two English pianos by the Victoria Bowling Club. The pianos, which were purchased from the Bristol Piano Company, Ltd., have a silver plate inscription on each.

We are in receipt of a copy of a stirring patriotic song entitled “ The Homeland’s Call,” written and composed by Charles Woodley and published (price 2s net) by the Bristol Piano Co. Ltd. The words and music are appropriate, and should create a great reception wherever sung.

A special meeting of the local State school committee was held last night for the purpose of appointing a janitor. Present : Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Rev Raine, Dr. Mandl, Henderson, Perreau and Woods. Three applications for the position were received and that of Mr J. McKnight accepted.

Miss Millar was entertained at a social evening at the residence of Mrs Speirs, by members of the combined Presbyterian Bible Classes last night. The guest was presented with a nicely bound autograph album by the classes. The Rev Mrßredin, in a eulogistic and happy speech made the presentation, which was suitably acknowledged. Miss Millar takes up a position in the Public Trust Office, Wellington, in the New Year.
